Fit the Back
In this lesson we will fit the back.
Make sure you have read this lesson all the way through before beginning the lesson. A word of advice is to practice on scrap.
| Align the back to the tail and tape it in place. | |
| Do the same at the heel. | |
| Mark the brace positions on the lining. | |
| Mark the brace where it meets the side. | |
| Remove the back. Subtract 2mm from the line you just drew. Cut to this mark with a razor saw. | |
| Chisel away the excess. | |
| Measure the depth of each brace. | |
| Transfer that measurement to the lining. | |
| Slowly remove the excess wood with a chisel. Check the fit of the back frequently. You will probably install and remove the back many times. Remember to check the alignment at the heel and tail! | |
| Perfect fit! | |
| Here is what it will look like. |
