Glue the Soundboard to the Neckshaft

In this lesson we will attach the soundboard to the neck block.

Make sure you have read this lesson all the way through before beginning the lesson. A word of advice is to practice on scrap. If you have any questions, ask before you begin.

Set the gramil to the thickness of the top.

Mark the neck block.

With a chisle pare away the extra material to create a shelf for the soundboard.

Mark the area for the two braces onto the neck block. Slowly remove material and check the fit often. If you go to far you can glue some veneer onto the block to build it up.

It should look like this.

Take a piece of clear plastic about 3 inches wide and about 36" long and scribe a center line down the middle. Align and clamp this guide so the center lines of the neck and the guide match up.

Check the centerline of the top with that of the guide.

Apply some titebond glue to the soundboard and slide it into place. Clamp the tail end of the soundboard with some spring clamps to hold it in alignment. Then clamp the soundboard to the heel with a few clamps. Make sure the soundboard does not slip off center!

After four+ hours remove the clamps.
